As the planet waits breathlessly for the arrival of the final film in the Harry Potter series - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, which opens, like, everywhere this weekend - the studio behind the films, Warner Brothers, has taken some time out from counting its stacks of money to compile some neat fun facts and figures from the eight-movie saga.

Feel free to wield these while queuing for tickets this weekend; thanks to the Seattle Times for the heads up.

A scene from the documentary ‘Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop,’ courtesy VKPR.
When director Rodman Flender says that only a fool would bet against former Tonight Show host Conan O’Brien, he’s not just offering platitudes. Flender may know O’Brien better than anyone, and his dynamite documentary Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop makes it clear that the towering redhead known colloquially as Coco has too much talent to ever be put down.

Royalty addicts already sinking into a kind of post-partum depression in the aftermath of the William and Kate’s sweeping Canuck tour – to say nothing of the weekend nuptials of Prince Albert of Monaco - have something else to live for with the announcement that this fall, Toronto’s TIFF Bell Lightbox will host an exhibition celebrating the late, great screen goddess Grace Kelly.

At least one good thing came out of the recent labour stoppage at Canada Post: it has resulted in a deadline extension for submissions to this year’s Rendezvous with Madness Film Festival. Filmmakers now have until August 12 to get their stuff submitted.

The mighty Chris Cooper (second from right) as a man facing workplace redundancy in The Company Men, courtesy AMPR.
Although we completely understand the powerful allure of Hobo with a Shotgun - with its gleeful lunacy and unhinged violence – allow us to spotlight another title also debuting on DVD rental shelves today.

Based on its star-power alone, The Company Men – featuring Ben Affleck, Tommy Lee Jones, the great Chris Cooper, Craig T. Nelson, a foxy Maria Bello and a startlingly wizened Kevin Costner – is worth a look-see.

Gary Oldman as George Smiley in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, courtesy Studio Canal.
Oh… this has all the makings of a must-see. A movie based on the masterful 1974 nail-biter by John le Carré – the undisputed king of the spy novel – and starring a heavyweight cast of British actors including Colin Firth, Gary Oldman and John Hurt, the forthcoming big-screen adaptation of Tinker Tailor Solider Spy looks five kinds of awesome.

According to Sympatico visitors, hosers rule the day – Strange Brew, best Canuck film ever, courtesy CP Images.
If there’s one thing visitors to the Sympatico site are hugely passionate about, it’s movies – or more specifically Canadian movies; those that are great, even those that are not so great.

Earlier this week, we asked you name what you think is the best-ever Canadian movie. The criteria was pretty much unspecified which meant that films actually made by Americans about Canada (as in Michael Moore’s Canadian Bacon) made the list alongside homegrown stuff by Atom Egoyan, Bruce McDonald and Denys Arcand.
