Documentary filmmaker Alex Gibney on set, courtesy The Canadian Press

With the Toronto International Film Festival just a month away, new announcements are coming fast and furious with many boosting an already stellar selection of films.

The latest confirmations concern the documentary series Real to Reel. Highlights include director Errol Morris's entry Tabloid which follows a woman's bizarre search for love and Thom Zimny's much-anticipated spotlight on Bruce Springsteen in The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town. The film - which is making its world premiere at TIFF - charts the creation of the Boss's seminal fourth album.

Also noteworthy and making its world premiere: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer, Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney's look at the New York governor's spectacular political ascent and equally spectacular tumble from office amid an explosive sex scandal. Gibney's film (he also made Gonzo: The Life And Work Of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, and is pictured on set above), includes an interview with Spitzer and is certain to be of huge mainstream interest at the festival and beyond.

Also new from the press office at TIFF: films presented as part of Wavelengths. The curated celebration of avant-garde films and video from around the world celebrates its 10th year this year with its largest slate of programming to date.

Look for works from master experimental film and video artists like James Benning and Nathaniel Dorsky as well as outstanding emerging artists like T. Marie and Oliver Husain. Running from September 10 to 13, the 2010 edition of Wavelengths (named, interestingly, for Canuck artist Michael Snow's influential film) offers six programs featuring 36 films and videos - unpack your black turtleneck and brace yourself.

All manner of ticket packages are currently available for Wavelengths and beyond; check with the TIFF website for more info.
